Both the recent pandemic and the war in Ukraine have highlighted the vulnerabilities in global and local energy supply. The fear of blackouts is back, and prices are rising. We know that increasing production of renewable energy is a medium-term solution to these problems, but what are the short-term solutions?

Electricity grids are set to become even more important in the near future due to the rapid growth of renewable energies and the fact that renewable energy output is variable, but the grids alone will not be able to solve all the problems. Storage is a particular concern, especially seasonal storage. A fusion of networks (geothermal, hydroelectric, etc.) will be needed to ensure a more resilient energy supply for society.

So how are some countries preparing for these new conditions, following the example of how China has coped with its rapid growth? How do cities react at the city level? What role does digitalisation play in the equation? And finally, is the dream of a world completely free of fossil fuels still possible?

This 12th Smart Energy Event will attempt to answer these questions, with speakers from Switzerland and abroad sharing their knowledge and experience. For the first time, the event will be held over a day and a half, with an exclusive evening opportunity to meet the adventurer Raphaël Domjan, as well as the chance to discover the architectural and gastronomic treasures of the city of Sion.
